China Supplier For Amazon FBA

Introduction

Not every Chinese supplier is a good fit for Amazon FBA. The FBA channel has specific packaging and compliance requirements, plus quality expectations driven by the review system. A supplier who is excellent for retail wholesale may struggle with FBA — and vice versa.

This article covers what makes a supplier FBA-ready, so sellers can filter faster.

What FBA Requires From The Supplier

  • FNSKU barcodes correctly applied — right barcode, right location, scannable, no other manufacturer barcodes visible
  • Poly bag with suffocation warning for products above the size threshold, with the warning text at correct size and readability
  • Case-pack quantities that match the seller’s plan-in-inbound settings
  • Carton labelling with buyer’s shipment ID applied at the factory (or at a prep centre downstream)
  • FBA-compliant packaging — right-sized, sturdy enough for Amazon’s fulfilment handling, without excessive void
  • Consistent unit-level quality because Amazon reviews expose variance fast

Suppliers who have delivered to FBA before know all of this. Suppliers who haven’t will learn on your order — which usually means one shipment gets flagged before they get it right.

How To Identify An FBA-Capable Supplier

Ask direct, specific questions:

  • “Do you have current customers shipping to Amazon FBA?”
  • “Can you apply FNSKU barcodes and buyer shipment labels at the factory?”
  • “What is your standard poly bag suffocation-warning setup?”
  • “Have you had shipments rejected by Amazon before, and if so what was the cause?”

Suppliers who answer these fluently have done it before. Suppliers who deflect or ask what you mean have not.

MOQ Expectations For FBA Sellers

Amazon private-label MOQs typically fall in the 300–1,000 unit range for the first order, 1,000–5,000 for repeat orders. Suppliers whose standard MOQ is 5,000+ are a poor fit unless they will make a launch-order exception.

The small-batch manufacturing article covers strategies for negotiating below-standard MOQ.

Quality Bar For FBA

The review system means any defect rate above roughly 2–3% translates into visible negative reviews within the first hundred sales. That is a tighter tolerance than most retail wholesale channels.

Suppliers should be willing to:

  • Sign off on a written defect classification (critical / major / minor)
  • Accept pre-shipment inspection as standard
  • Provide corrective action on the next shipment when defects are documented

Suppliers who resist inspection are suppliers who don’t fit FBA.

Freight Considerations

FBA shipments go to Amazon-designated warehouses that change based on availability. Freight forwarders who specialise in FBA understand:

  • Amazon’s inbound appointment system
  • Palletisation and labelling requirements
  • Prep centre routing when needed
  • Peak-season constraints

A supplier who understands FBA freight is a bonus, not a requirement — the forwarder is usually the buyer’s contract, not the supplier’s.

FAQ

Should the supplier ship direct to FBA or via a prep centre? Direct-to-FBA is cheaper if the supplier can get labelling and packaging right at the factory. Prep centre is safer for first orders and complex SKUs. Common pattern: prep centre for orders 1–2, direct for orders 3+.

Are there FBA-specialist suppliers? Some suppliers position themselves this way. Verify with specific questions rather than accepting the label at face value.

What’s the most common FBA rejection cause from Chinese shipments? Barcode issues (wrong barcode, unreadable, or manufacturer barcode not covered). Second most common: poly bag suffocation-warning noncompliance.
